百元電腦的夢想

正當百元電腦 (OLPC One Laptop per Child)計畫還在為降不下來的成本而努力時，









Engadget有篇消息指出，
NComputing已經和馬其頓政府(Macedonia)簽下合約，
提供他們總數為十八萬台而平均成本更為低廉($70)的選擇。

可能會由的疑問是NComputing的產品是如何突破成本的限制，
來到讓人驚異的低價。
在NComputing網站上的介紹，
我們可以了解他們產品和一般PC是有差別的，
他們使用的是Thin Client的架構，
所以大致上我們可以把它了解做
由一台Server,和許多Client連結的組合。
只需在Server端裝置較完整的資源，
Client藉由到Server連線來取得運算資源，
就能省下Client端的硬體成本。
當組合內低成本的Client增加，
整組設備就能提供更便宜的單位售價(price/seat)了。
